In the Sacrament of Holy Orders, or Ordination, the priest being ordained vows to lead other Catholics by bringing them the sacraments (especially the Eucharist), by proclaiming the Gospel, and by providing other means to holiness.
Everyone has a calling, or vocation, in this life. How we respond to that call is unique to every individual – some of us are called to holiness through marriage, others through single life, as a priest, deacon or member of a religious community.
